About the District
Arizona’s Congressional District 9 is a new district comprised of all of Tempe and parts of Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Paradise Valley and the Phoenix neighborhoods of Sunnyslope, Arcadia, the Biltmore area and Ahwatukee. Historically, the district’s voters have performed slightly more Democratic than Republican. Barack Obama won this area in 2008, as did the Democratic candidates for Governor and Attorney General in 2011. Two of Arizona’s great Democratic successes in 2011, the election of Democratic Mayor Greg Stanton and the recall of Republican Senate President Russell Pearce, happened here.
