Urgent: POLLING UPDATE

March 14th, 2013

A news report last night revealed that a secret poll was taken to see who might run against Kyrsten Sinema next year. Polls cost money, and the fact that someone is already spending in CD-9 shows that Kyrsten will face a real challenge. Here is what the report said:

Undecided 36 percent
Vernon Parker 35.2 percent
Wendy Rogers 17.1 percent
Martin Sepulveda 9.7 percent
Marc Victor 2.2 percent

You sent Kyrsten to Congress to protect Arizona families and to help rebuild Arizona’s middle class. So far this year, she has helped pass the Violence Against Women Act, pushed for the DREAM Act and fought against drastic cuts that hurt our soldiers, active duty military and veterans programs.

Just ten weeks into her term, Kyrsten Sinema has already delivered results. But the other side is already gearing up to run against her, with one candidate holding a campaign launch party this Sunday.

Can we count on you to contribute $25, $50 or $100 to help us prepare for this challenge?

We’re counting on you.

Rodd McLeod

P.S. Kyrsten has served in Congress for just ten weeks — and already her challengers are getting ready to try and defeat her. Please give $25, $50 or $100 today.

Let’s Overturn DOMA

March 11th, 2013

The so-called Defense of Marriage Act didn’t defend marriage so much as discriminate against LGBT couples, but we finally have the momentum to overturn it.

President Obama has argued for doing away with DOMA, and last week, President Bill Clinton — who signed DOMA into law back in 1996 — also came out against it, calling for the law to be overturned.

Block by block, this wall of discrimination is coming down. Please join me and Congressman Sean Maloney in thanking Bill Clinton for speaking out for equality, freedom and justice for all. Read More »

WOMEN WIN

February 28th, 2013

Great News! The House just passed the Violence Against Women Act, thanks to hard work done by women and men across America.

THANK YOU for you support in getting this done. The Act was first passed in 1994, and has had a significant effect in reducing domestic violence since then. This new authorization directs more resources at vulnerable populations who still face great jeopardy: LGBT women, immigrants and women who live on Tribal lands.

Today’s vote demonstrates that Congress can work to address real problems when we stand up, speak clearly, and listen to one another. The President is expected to sign the bill into law within days. Read More »

Save 49,189 Arizona Jobs

February 26th, 2013

Jobs. Jobs. Jobs.

People here in Congress always talk a good game about how Americans need jobs, but when it comes to doing the right thing to create more jobs, too often Congress just messes it up.

If Congress doesn’t act by Friday, Arizona could lose 49,189 jobs because Congress passed a bad budget bill two summers ago. This bill would slash billions of dollars from just about everything worthwhile that our hard-earned tax dollars pay for: air traffic controllers, federal law enforcement, investment in science and technology research, funding for our school teachers, even the roads we drive on each day.

Please stand with me against these cuts and help me stand up for actual Arizona jobs. Contribute $5, $10 or $25 to our campaign today to make your voice heard. Read More »

FLOOR UPDATE on Violence Against Women Act

February 12th, 2013

Can you believe that Congress still has not put the bill up for a vote on the floor of the House, and now the tea party is trying to kill the bill? It has been 5 days since I last emailed you about this, and while the Senate just passed the bill, the House has done nothing.

One tea party group actually described the Violence Against Women Act as “the kind of attitude that is setting women back.” Another right-wing think tank said that the bill was “dangerous” — to men.

We must act now to tell Congress how important this is! More than 1,300 of you have signed our petition. If you haven’t signed yet, please take action by signing today. Read More »

breaking news: violence against women vote

February 7th, 2013

Head’s up — the US Senate is about to vote to re-authorize the Violence Against Women Act, which had been the law of the land for 18 years until Congress walked away from it in 2011.

Pretty much everyone in Congress agrees that the law worked well for 18 years, helping to drive down the rate of domestic violence, and drive up the amount of solid police work against abusers.

So, passing this law is a no-brainer, right?

Wrong. While the vote is taking place in the Senate–where it is expected to pass with flying colors–in the House, where I work, the Republican leaders say they won’t even let us vote on the bill because it takes new steps to protect women who need protection most: Native Americans, undocumented immigrants, and LGBT women.

So that’s what we’re up against. Congressmen who would deny tens of millions of women the protection they need because they have been marginalized.

Please sign our petition to tell Majority Leader Eric Cantor to let us vote on the Violence Against Women Act! Read More »

638

February 5th, 2013

I made a promise to you when we started this campaign over a year ago – that I would work every single day to wake up Washington and get Congress to work again.

There are 638 days until my next election and already the Republicans are campaigning against us. We were successful in the campaign because we started early, and we stood side by side and worked hard every day.

I need you to commit to stand with me again in 2014 by making a monthly donation of $5, $10, or $20 today. Read More »

They’re offensive–and they know it!

January 16th, 2013

Well, that didn’t take long.

This new Congress hasn’t been sworn in for two weeks, and the national Republican party has already put out a list of Democrats they are coming after with what they call their “offensive strategy.” (At least they know that their attack ads are offensive!)

Today is January 16th, and the DC Republicans already bragging that they’ll attack Kyrsten Sinema. Hers is literally the third name on their list.

Now, you know and I know that Kyrsten is battle-tested, and that no amount of ugly TV ads will stop her from giving her all for Arizona. And that’s why we need to have her back.

I’m contributing fifty bucks right now–can Kyrsten count on you to give $30, $50 or $100 today? Read More »
