Members of Arizona Goldwater Family Endorse Sinema for Congress
Phoenix, AZ – Barry Goldwater’s grandchildren threw their support behind Kyrsten Sinema today in her race for Congress in Arizona’s ninth district. Carolyn, C.C., Ty and Alison are the eldest grandchildren of Arizona icon and 1964 Republican Presidential nominee Barry Goldwater. Goldwater represented Arizona in the United States Senate from 1953 – 1964, and again from 1969 – 1987.
“Arizona needs new leaders who are pro-compromise, pro-choice and will put the good of Arizona before the good of a political party, that’s why we support Kyrsten Sinema for Congress,” said C.C. Goldwater.
Sinema’s opponent in the ninth district race, Vernon Parker, has taken unusually controversial stands on social issues, coming out against stem cell research and laws to protect gay Americans from discrimination. Like disgraced Missouri Congressman Todd Akin, Parker is against a woman’s right to choose–even in cases of rape or incest.
“Especially after the last few years of partisan hardliners giving our state a bad name, we need representatives who can provide balanced solutions that attract new businesses, and in turn jobs,” said Ty Goldwater. “That’s what my grandfather did, working with Mo Udall to improve life in Arizona for all it’s citizens. Those are the values we need to get back to, and those are the values that Kyrsten represents.”
